Now comes the real challenge—implementation. The WHAT is defined and you mapped out the HOW of your strategy. Here’s how to make a successful implementation:
🔹 Break it down into actionable steps: Treat your strategy like a project. Break it into manageable sub-projects (by function or team) and use SMART work packages with clear responsibilities and deadlines.
🔹 Allocate resources effectively: Ensure project managers and specialists have the time and tools they need to focus on execution. Shift their regular duties to other team members, and offer training where needed.
🔹 Track and measure progress: Use a simple set of KPI’s (no more than 4!) to track progress. Create a dashboard to review these metrics regularly and keep stakeholders informed. It’s also a powerful tool for progress updates and maintaining momentum.
🔹 Create a communication plan: Ensure everyone understands the WHAT behind the strategy to maximize buy-in. Provide regular updates (e.g., every 3 months) to all stakeholders and capture their feedback.
🔹 Evaluate and adjust: Use a Plan-Do-Check-Act method to review what’s working and where tweaks are needed. Remember: “If the plan doesn’t work, adjust the plan—not the goal!”
Stick to these principles, and your strategy will be on the fast track to success.
